ZAMBONI® MODEL 552 WITNESSES NEW SPEED SKATING RECORDS IN THE NETHERLANDS

PARAMOUNT, CALIFORNIA (February 15, 2007) – At the recent World Allround Speed Skating Championships which were held in Heerenveen, the Netherlands on February 9, 10 and 11, 2007, the ice was fast and the athletes were at the top of their game. The high quality of the facility’s ice surface received the attention of the skaters, which amassed dozens of records.

After a weekend of intense competition between the world’s leading speed skaters, Sven Kramer (NED) and Ireen Wüst (NED) were crowned the 2007 World Allround Speed Skating Champions. In total there were 23 personal bests, six track records, two national records and one world record on 10.000 meters, as well as two track records, four national records and 11 personal bests for points. All of the major European networks were on hand to cover the event and over 12,000 people attended the competition daily.

The amazing quality of the ice surface was enhanced by two new Zamboni® Model 552 electric ice resurfacers and the Thialf Arena’s new control system which maintains the air, temperature, and humidity in the building to provide the best possible conditions for the maintenance of an excellent ice surface.

Imbema Controls Ltd, the Zamboni Company’s distributor in Holland, delivered the new Zamboni machines to Thialf in anticipation of the event. Zamboni maintains a branch office in Zurich, Switzerland and many of the Company’s representatives (including the grandson of Frank J. Zamboni) were on hand to see the events in Heerenveen.

According to Lambèrt Prüst, CEO of Imbema Controls: “Thialf wants to have the fastest track – one suitable for world records – therefore they’ve selected the best ice resurfacer for the task. The Zamboni brand has been in use at Thialf for over 20 years and they follow a thorough maintenance schedule to ensure the best performance.”

The Model 552 is built in Paramount, California at the Zamboni Company’s factory. There are two Zamboni factories: one in Paramount, and the other in the City of Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

With a history that spans over 50 years, the Zamboni Company preserves its founder’s legacy through continuing innovation and its support of the ice sport industry. As the leader in ice resurfacing technology, Zamboni remains the overwhelming choice for ice rink operators throughout the world.
